Group Steals Best Buy Laptops, Takes Off in Rental Car

Six laptops were taken from the electronics store located at Brookside Marketplace, near the border of Tinley Park.

A group of men used the fire exit as an escape route to steal six laptops from a Tinley Park electronics store earlier this month.

Employees at Best Buy, 7330 191st St., watched four men who appeared to be casing the store on Sept. 2 and 3, Tinley Park police said.

No arrests were made but witnesses were able to supply descriptions of the four men to police.

At about 11:34 a.m., Best Buy employees saw four men who immediately darted to the computer section and grabbed two computers each, according to a Tinley Park police report. One of the men likely went to the fire exit that's located right behind the computer section, one employee told police.

A supervisor was alerted to the suspicious men and ran to the fire exit in time to see the four make a break, the report states. He was able to get the license plate of the getaway car, which came back registered to a rental company.

The supervisor told police that the men "could not have been in the store longer than a minute."

Store security believes the same group of people visited the store on Sept. 2, the report states. When they robbers realized employees were watching, they dropped some of the merchandise and left.

The robbers are described as black males, two of who were about 180 and 200 pounds. One man had a mustache and was wearing a white, short-sleeved shirt, black jeans and white gym shoes. A second man had a shaved head, goatee and was wearing a short-sleeved white t-shirt, dark jeans and red shoes. The third thief's black hair was in short dreadlocks and he wore a white, short-sleeved t-shirt, tan belt and dark jeans. The last man wore a black v-neck shirt, dark athletic pants and white shoes.

Anyone with information about the theft can contact the Tinley Park Police Department at 708-444-5300.
