Frankfort Cop Facing Felony Domestic Case Hit With New Burglary Charge

Prosecutors added a count of residential burglary to a Frankfort cop's felony domestic battery case.

A Frankfort cop charged with beating up his Mokena girlfriend was slapped with an additional count of residential burglary during his arraignment Friday morning.

Donald Walsh, 29, pleaded not guilty to that charge, as well as to the counts of domestic battery and aggravated domestic battery he was already facing for allegedly attacking his girlfriend in July.

Special prosecutor Dave Neal said the residential burglary charge stems from Walsh allegedly breaking into the home of his 32-year-old girlfriend with the intent to batter her.

The girlfriend accused Walsh of slipping into her house while she slept in the early hours of July 25.

After "verbally assaulting" her and demanding to see who she had been calling on her cell phone, the girlfriend said in a petition for an order of protection that Walsh attacked her, "choking me, slapping me, hitting me and eventually punching me in the face."

The girlfriend's 9-year-old daughter reportedly called 911 after she heard her mother screaming.

While the girlfriend made those allegations in her petition, she apparently does not want to repeat them to the Frankfort Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.

The board is investigating the alleged attack and the girlfriend was subpoenaed to testify, but has refused to do so.

"Specifically, she stated, 'I plead the Fifth,'" said a petition to compel the girlfriend to appear as a witness.

Whether the girlfriend has the right to not incriminate herself at a fire and police board hearing has yet to be determined.

Walsh was placed on administrative leave after his arrest. He is free on bond.
