Frankfort Traffic Stop Results in Felony Charge

A Romeoville man was recently charged with possession of a controlled substance after a bottle of antidepressants was allegedly discovered in his car during a traffic stop in Frankfort.

Christopher A. Cleaver, 23, of the 1900 block of Somerset Court in Romeoville, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, a felony, at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 9 by the Frankfort Police Department. He was also issued citations for driving with a suspended license and no insurance.

According to department records, police were dispatched to an address near the intersection of Brown Drive and Charrington Drive in response to a harassment call. Cleaver had allegedly made threatening phone calls to the victim and claimed to be en route to the victim’s house, even though the victim had made it clear that Cleaver was unwelcome.

Police spoke with Cleaver on the phone and informed him that he was barred from contacting the victim.

The victim described Cleaver’s car to the reporting officer, who then left the residence.

While driving south on Bramble Drive, the officer saw a car matching the victim’s description and initiated a traffic stop.

The driver was allegedly unable to provide a license, but identified himself as Cleaver. After confirming the suspension of Cleaver’s license, the officer arrested Cleaver and proceeded to search the car after Cleaver’s mother, a passenger, had exited the vehicle.

Between the driver and passenger seat, police found a prescription bottle containing 20 pills, 10 of which were blue and 10 of which were white. Further investigation revealed that the bottle contained the antidepressants Alprazolam and Lorazepam. Cleaver allegedly said the pills belonged to his girlfriend.

Police also discovered two bottles of Methadone during the search, which was prescribed to Cleaver’s girlfriend.

The car, which also belonged to Cleaver’s girlfriend, was towed.

Cleaver was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility and released the following day.
