Frankfort Township Supervisor Jim Moustis' Grandson Dodges Felony With Guilty Plea

The prosecutor dropped one felony charge and reduced another to a misdemeanor before Jim Moustis' grandson pleaded guilty to stealing from his boss.

Frankfort Township Supervisor Jim Moustis' grandson slipped a felony case by copping a plea to a reduced charge.

Special prosecutor Dave Neal dropped one felony theft charge and reduced another to a misdemeanor in exchange for Nicholas Moustis' guilty plea.

Nicholas Moustis, 23, was sentenced to two years court supervision and 200 hours of community service, and was ordered to pay $3,666.65 restitution and $1,000 in court costs and a fine.

Nicholas Moustis stole more than $3,600 from his employer, a Mokena wholesale cigarette distributor. The criminal complaint against Nicholas Moustis identified the victim of the theft as Mazher Khan.

Khan, incidentally, was sentenced in July to six months home confinement and ordered to pay $58,150 in restitution to the Illinois Department of Revenue for contraband cigarette trafficking.

During Nicholas Moustis' sentencing. Neal, who was appointed to the case due to Jim Moustis' position not only with Frankfort Township but also as a member of the Will County Board, detailed how the theft was discovered.

Neal said Khan arrived at work and found a note on his desk informing him Nicholas Moustis had quit his job. Khan checked surveillance video to see why Nicholas Moustis had quit and saw him receive cash from a customer for a cigarette purchase, Neal said.

Nicholas Moustis pocketed the money and left, Neal said.
