Frankfort Man Slumped Over Wheel with Vehicle in Drive

A Frankfort man was charged with driving under the influence after Flossmoor police found him slumped over the steering column of his vehicle, with the vehicle set in drive and keys in the ignition, police said.

SATURDAY, JULY 9

Matthew J. Komer, 23, of the 8600 block of Cedar Court, was found apparently unconscious in his 2005 red Toyota Corolla shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday, police said. Komer's car was stopped on the westbound lane of Vollmer Road near the intersection of Vollmer and Western, according to the report.

When the officer tapped on the car's window, Komer woke up and attempted to drive away, but was ordered by the officer to stop, police said. The officer noted a strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath, and also that his eyes appeared red, glassy and watery, according to the report.

Questioned about his activities, Komer admitted drinking alcohol "around midnight." He failed field sobriety tests, and a portable Breathalyzer test found that he yielded a reading of .249, resulting in the Frankfort man being placed under arrest for DUI, police said.

Komer is scheduled to appear in Markham Court on Aug. 26.
