Driver Tells Cops He's 'More of a Stoner' Than a Drinker

A Frankfort man was charged with DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Although he told Mokena police he was "more of a stoner" than a drinker, a Frankfort man was charged both with drunken driving and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Kenneth S. Shoot, 22, of the 600 block of Aspen Drive in Frankfort, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of drug paraphernalia, improper backing, and driving without insurance, police said.

According to a Mokena police report, a patrol officer saw a parked car near the intersection of Hickory Creek and Old LaGrange roads on May 28. Thinking the car was suspicious, the officer approached and saw five people in the car.

Before the officer approached, the officer saw the car back up into the road and travel in reverse, the report said. When speaking with the driver, Shoot, the officer smelled alcohol on his breath and the odor of marijuana smoke coming from the car, police said.

A search of the car found a box commonly used for smoking marijuana.

According to the report, Shoot said, "I'm not really a drinker. I'm more of a stoner," during the field sobriety tests.

Shoot was released on a $750 I-bond for the drug paraphernalia charge and posted $100 cash bond for the traffic violations. He is due in court in Joliet on July 7.
