Boyfriend Told Police a Different Story on How He Was Run Over

The man whose girlfriend is accused of running over him didn't rat her out to Tinley Park Police when he was initially questioned about the incident, according to a police report.

The 21-year-old man who suffered severe burns after his girlfriend allegedly drove over him last week originally told police an unknown vehicle had hit him, dragging him down 175th Street, according to police reports.

Christine A. Meyers, 23, was charged with aggravated domestic battery Sunday, Dec. 16, after prosecutors claimed she drove over her boyfriend after picking him up from a bar early Friday. The incident resulted in burns on the man's chest, back and scrotum, the latter injury needing surgery to repair.

But the boyfriend's initial report to Tinley Park Police paints a drastically different picture of what happened. According to the report, the man had been drinking at JW Hollstein's with friends from around 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, until 1:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, when he decided to walk alone to Meyers' home in the 17700 block of Ridgeland Avenue.

As the man was crossing the intersection at 175th Street and Ridgeland Avenue, he said a light-colored vehicle traveling eastbound on 175th Street drove through the stop sign and hit him, the report stated. The man rolled across the vehicle's hood, hit the ground and was run over by the vehicle, the report continued. The man's legs then were caught under the vehicle, and he was dragged along 175th Street until he broke free by rolling side to side, the report stated.

Finally, the man told police he "ran" to Meyers' house to tell her what happened. Meyers' mother then dropped him off at the emergency room at St. James Hospital and Health Center in Olympia Fields, the report stated.

According to the report, the boyfriend couldn’t remember anything else about the vehicle nor could he identify the driver and whether there were other people in the vehicle. The man also said he didn't want to file a complaint if a suspect was caught, the report stated.

The boyfriend's report was taken at about 3 a.m. Friday, and Meyers was taken in to custody at 5:21 a.m. that day, but she wasn't booked until 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, according to police records. Why Meyers was arrested or when and if her boyfriend's story to police changed was not included in the report. A call to Chief Steve Neubauer was not returned Monday.

Neubauer told Patch Friday that police .

How the accident happened wasn't the only information that didn't match between the man's original police report and Sunday's bond hearing for Meyers. At the hearing, Meyers and her boyfriend were said to be living together. The police report lists his residence as Frankfort.

In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Christine Meyers' mother, Jacquelyn, said her daughter didn't mean to hurt her boyfriend and that "a lot of alcohol" was involved.

"She's not a horrible person," Jacquelyn Meyers told the Tribune.

Meyers also told the Tribune that she lives at the Ridgeland home with her daughter, her daughter's boyfriend and that couple's 2-year-old child.

Christine Meyers still is being held on $100,000 bail at Cook County Jail, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office website. Her next court date is Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
