Boyfriend Chases, Catches Would-be Thief Breaking in to Car

Christopher Decesare, 24, of Frankfort, faces three felony counts of burglary of a motor vehicle. Police said he broke in to cars Sunday in Frankfort and Frankfort Township.

A Frankfort man's one-night, car break-in spree was foiled Sunday after he was chased and tackled by the boyfriend of one of his would-be victims, according to a sheriff's report.

Christopher Decesare, 24, of the 7600 block of West Moorefield Drive, was charged with three felony counts of burglary of a motor vehicle after deputies arrested him and accused him of breaking into three cars in Frankfort and Frankfort Township on Sunday, Nov. 27, said sheriff's spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer. Decesare is being held in Will County Jail without bail.

Police said Decesare was caught rummaging through the back seat of a car in the 7700 block of West Jefferson Court in Frankfort Township by the vehicle's owner, Hoffmeyer said. The owner, who was checking to see if she had locked her car, went back to her apartment after seeing Decesare and yelled for her boyfriend, who came out and chased Decesare north, down West Jefferson Court.

The boyfriend tackled Decesare at around Graceland Lane and Frankfort Square Road and brought him back to his girlfriend's apartment parking lot, Hoffmeyer said. Neither man was hurt.

When deputies arrived, they found a handbag on Decesare, which contained items from cars burglarized earlier in the evening, Hoffmeyer said. The items included:

  • a wallet
  • miscellaneous papers
  • an insurance card
  • credit and debit cards
  • a pair of sunglasses
  • a bottle of perfume,
  • a pair of gloves

The items were stolen from vehicles in the 20000 block of South Greenfield Lane and the 7700 block of West Emeral Court, both in Frankfort, Hoffmeyer said. No items were taken from the West Jefferson Court vehicle, and deputies returned the stolen goods to their owners, she added.
