Bogus Check Lands Chicago Woman with Multiple Felonies

A Chicago woman tried to cash a bogus check for almost $3,000 at a Frankfort bank, police said.

Joann E. Mallory, 50, of the 7300 block of Yates Boulevard, faces multiple felonies, including forgery, identity theft and burglary, Frankfort police said. Bail was set at $200,000.

On Sept. 13, Mallory tried to cash the large check at a bank in the 20200 block of LaGrange Road, police said. A clerk, who also works at New Lenox bank, recognized Mallory from that job and knew that they had previously tried to pass a fraudulent check there.

Police said Mallory stole the identity of a woman from Elburn, IL, police said. She had the victim’s driver’s license and credit card when she was taken into custody.

Mallory had two active warrants out for her arrest, with at least one from Lake County, according to Will County records. She was booked into Will County jail on Sept. 13.
