Ammonia Tank Flipped, Not Leaking: Official

UPDATE: 4:04 p.m. Tuesday

Frankfort Fire Protection District firefighters have basically cleared the area now. They drained one ammonia tank into a second one.

Original story:

Roads are closed for a half-mile away from the intersection of Owens and Steger roads while emergency crews deal with an overturned ammonia tank.

The tank is not leaking and does not pose an immediate danger, according to one Frankfort Fire Protection District official. Still, the area remains shut down while the tank, which was being pulled by a tractor on West Steger, is uprighted.

The tank flipped when the tractor driver pulled closer to the edge of the road to make room for oncoming cars, said Bob Wilson of the Frankfort Fire Protection District.

The accident happened at about 3 p.m. Tuesday

A large tractor had been called in to pull the tank up.
