Donald Peloquin, longtime local mayor and co-owner of Hickey Memorial Chapels, is challenging 10-term incumbent Bobby Rush for the newly remapped 1st Congressional District seat.

Because nearly 50 percent of the new 1st district is now in the suburbs. This Congressional district now encompasses many South and Southwest suburbs in Cook and Will Counties, and many voters in these suburbs say they do not want Chicago Machine-style politics in their areas.

The 1st Congressional District now spans urban neighborhoods and rural suburbs, extending from 26th Street and the lakefront to tiny Elwood in Will County. Donald Peloquin has many ideas on how to increase economic development and create jobs in this broad, diverse district.
