Who's Your Favorite Frankfort Small Business Owner?

It's National Small Business Week, and in honor of that, we want readers to tell us what village small business owners deserve some recognition.

According to the 2012 presidential proclamation declaring National Small Business Week, the observance is an opportunity to "celebrate the generations of entrepreneurs who have given their all to realize a dream."

The Small Business Administration defines a small business as one that's privately owned with fewer than 500 employees. Look around Frankfort, and from restaurants to boutiques to curio shops, those are pretty much the types of businesses that populate the village.

And behind each of those successful businesses is an owner who has made the retail experience more than just a consumer transaction. It's an owner who not only values his or her customers but also the community around the store or eatery.

So the question I pose to readers: Who are your favorite small business owners in Frankfort? Who has gone out of his or her way to make you feel like you're the most valuable customer in town? Which store owner takes the label "good corporate citizen" seriously and not simply as an empty promise to get a tax break?

Now's the chance to put the spotlight on those entrepreneurs. Tell us who your favorite small business owners are and why in the comments section. And you can show them even more support by leaving a review in the Patch business directory.

Teresa from Chew On This. She runs a very successful business in the heart of historic downtown Frankfort even during this challenging economic time. She knows her customers and their owners. Her employees are wonderful and knowledgeable about what they sell, she knows how to use social media to communicate with her customers, she plans and sponsors events in the community for pet owners, participates and volunteers on Village and community committees and is really a nice person.

Colleen from Pure Water Depot on Benton Drive and Harlem Avenue. Since we have well water in Frankfort with a very high TDS (total dissolved solids) readings consistently in the 500 range, the only way to go for good health is to have pure water filtered by reverse osmosis. That is what Colleen is providing the Frankfort area with every day; pure water with less than 10 TDS. Colleen is friendly, very reasonable in her charges, and providing a great service to our area
