Hickory Creek students meet World War II veteran

The Hickory Creek Middle School sixth grade students in teacher Julie Simpson’s Social Studies class had a special visitor recently.  World War II veteran and great-grandfather of sixth grader Dylan Groen, 94-year old Herman Meyer came to the school to speak to the students about his service in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Meyer served in Iceland in the Army. He shared his experiences with the students from the time he was drafted into the Army until the end of World War II.  The students were very appreciative of his time served to protect our country and they enjoyed hearing about his experiences. Mr. Meyer’s daughter and Dylan’s grandmother, Sharon Duerr, also visited at the school that day.
