Grand Prairie students celebrate Red Ribbon Week

District 157-C students participated in their annual Red Ribbon Week celebrations at all schools.  The nationwide Red Ribbon Week program reaches millions of young people each year and stresses the importance of staying drug free and making healthy life decisions that impact us on both a personal and social level.  The program supports the Character Counts character education program utilized throughout all District 157-C schools.

For their Red Ribbon Week celebration, Grand Prairie Elementary School pre-kindergarten through second grade students dressed in themed clothing to display their commitment to being drug free.  The campaign incorporated a different theme each day to celebrate what it means to make positive, fun and healthy choices.  The themes included children wearing their favorite pajamas to school on “Put drugs to sleep” day and their favorite character shirt for the theme of "My character shines, I’m drug free,” Each class also took turns tying a red ribbon on a tree at the school to pledge to be drug free.  The program was also reinforced by activities within the classrooms.
