Frankfort students pay tribute to September 11

Students at all three Frankfort School District 157-C schools paid tribute to the anniversary of the September 11 attacks on America with grade level-appropriate observances.

At Grand Prairie Elementary School, students dressed in patriotic red, white and blue clothing.

At Chelsea Intermediate School, students also dressed in red, white and blue clothing.  During their physical education classes, students participated in team-building activities, learned about the symbolism of the American flag and used tarps to learn how to work as a team to properly fold a flag.   Focusing on the heroes of 9/11, the teachers highlighted the teamwork that was displayed by citizens and first responders that day and emphasized the importance of working as a team to overcome life’s challenges.  Chelsea Assistant Principal Dan Prorok stated, “We emphasized the positives that come from using teamwork during a catastrophe.  These activities reinforced Chelsea’s theme this year, the ‘Awesome Year Challenge.’  The goal is to focus all of the staff and students on making it an awesome year for someone else.”

At Hickory Creek Middle School, all students observed a moment of silence while the flag was flown at half-staff.  During social studies classes, eighth grade students watched an educational video about what happened on 9/11/01, discussed the video and participated in other classroom activities about these events and our country.
