Chelsea students participate in Bluestem Award program

Chelsea Intermediate School recently participated in the Illinois Children's Choice Award -The Bluestem Awards.  The book award program was implemented by the state and is intended for students in grades three to five.  It is similar to the Rebecca Caudill Award program for students in fourth through eighth grade.  The District 157-C Education Foundation supports this program at the school.

Chelsea students who participated were required to read or listen to four or more books from a list of twenty nominated books. The following students read all twenty books from the list: Kara Regnier, Reese Parchem, Lilly Stone, Emily Spencer, Zani Anderson, Arann Naughton, Lauren Booth, Kaitlyn Szott, Sachin Vijayaraj, Mia Conway, Amanda Bauer, Kayleigh Hanlon, Sophia Glancy, Brooklyn Chognacki, Alyssa Vegter, Allison Ristich, Ashley White, Annie Hackett, Kehkashan Hussaini, Kayleigh Heffelmire, Maggie Williams, Matthew Michaels, Justin Cheon, Emily Butkowski, Cali Burns, Isabel Ernst, Allison Lisota, Annabelle Kiely, Emme Burdelik, Jackie Brown, Noa Gavilan, Alexa Zeller, Elise Smith, Kendall Reh, Leah Bragiel, Allison Pomerantz, Catherine Podlesa, Kailey White, Theresa Rinker, Nicole Costa, Sophia Tischer, Genvieve Goudral, Sydney Hooten, Meagan O’Conner, Kathy Kina, Rachel Leonard, Loralei Quinn and Gavin Murray.

As a way to celebrate their hard work, all students who read the twenty nominated books were visited by South Paw, the mascot of the Chicago White Sox.  Classrooms who read the most Bluestem books for their grade level were also visited by South Paw.
