School District 157-C Takes “Polar Plunge” for Special Olympics

Staff and family members brave icy lake to raise funds

Frankfort School District 157-C staff and family members took the “Polar Plunge” to raise funds for Special Olympics Illinois recently.  The nine member “Frankfort Cheetahs” team was comprised of Cari Clousing, Roger Clousing, Char Ruhbeck, April Mahy, Megan Murray, Danielle Savant, Laura Brannigan, Curt Saindon and Carrie Clodi.

District 157-C Director of Special Services, Carrie Clodi, suggested putting a team together to participate this year.  She stated, “This was a great opportunity for us to give back to an organization that does a lot for us.”  Team members dressed as super heroes as they braved the ice cold Manteno Lake.  The 157-C team raised $8,500 for Special Olympics Illinois and took first place for fundraising efforts for participating groups under ten people.  District 157-C Superintendent Dr. Tom Hurlburt stated, “This was a great event for the team as an expansion of our Special Olympics efforts.”

Since last year, District 157-C has sponsored a Special Olympics student track team. Also named the Frankfort Cheetahs, the team has begun practicing for the May 4th regional track meet at Thornwood High School.
