Phillips Chevrolet takes local scouts on a tour of dealership

Frankfort kids learn about car repair and maintenance

Frankfort Cub Scouts Pack 270, Webelos II Den 10 and Frankfort Girl Scout Service Unit 718 Juniors Troop 815 recently took an educational field trip to Frankfort’s Phillips Chevrolet.

Phillips Service Manager Dan Kachinsky was very patient as he taught the fourth graders about car repair and maintenance.  The scouts popped open the hood of a Camaro to inspect the engine, checked the dip stick, and saw where to put "bug juice" (windshield wiper fluid.)  They were surprised that the battery for the Camaro is located in the trunk. The children also learned about hydraulics, checked tire pressure, and inspected underneath the car to see where to change the oil.

At the end of their field trip, the scouts were each presented with a gift bag including tool kits, Phillips baseball caps and a Phillips Chevrolet mascot heart doll. Den Leader/Troop Leader Cari Mills stated, “Phillips Chevrolet was more than accommodating as the scouts were lead through various stations to learn about safety in the work place, common tools used in the Service Department and the car wash was a big hit.  All of the parents were impressed with the presentation and the scouts were ecstatic.”  Cari Mills is also a Frankfort School District 157-C Board of Education member.
