Emal blast sent out 12/17/12 by District 157-C Superintendent Dr.Thomas Hurlburt

Email blast from District 157-C Superintendent of Schools

The events of last Friday have shaken our sense of security. It is very difficult to understand why the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School occurred. It is even more difficult for children to understand it. One of the best things that we can do for our children is to give them a sense of normalcy, routine and security.

This morning the teachers and administration met to talk about how to go about reassuring the students that they are safe and get them into a regular routine. We have also made all social workers and psychologists available to talk to any students that might need to talk to someone individually.

I began my day by walking through each building to make sure that everything and everyone was ok. I can assure you that all three buildings are running smoothly. Your children are in their classrooms learning and going about their day.

As an extra measure of precaution, we will keep our outside main entrance doors locked at all times. From now on, you will need to be "buzzed in" in order to enter the building. I realize that this may be an inconvenience, but it is a necessary step at this time.

It is also important to know that each building practices multiple emergency drills during the school year. We work closely with the Village of Frankfort police and fire departments to review our plans. We met in November to review our current emergency plans. We also conduct mutual emergency drills together.

Please feel free to call your building Principal or myself for more assistance.

Sincerely,
