District 157-C FSP hosts "Holidays Around the World"

157-C Children learn about holidays around the world.

The District 157-C Family School Partnership (FSP) organization recently hosted “Holidays Around the World” to celebrate the winter season and traditions from around the world.  The program reinforced the Grand Prairie Elementary School pre-kindergarten through second grade multi-disciplinary program on cultural awareness at the school.  The program was coordinated by FSP Co-President Maria Lehman.

During the event, students had an opportunity to learn more about traditions around the world through presentations by volunteer families about their own cultural traditions.  There were winter-themed games and a bounce house for the children.  A disk jockey provided winter music, games, a sing-along and trivia contests.  In addition, children had an opportunity to create a craft to take home and make an ornament for the FSP holiday tree.  Hot chocolate and smoothies were available from NuVibe Smoothies and pizza was available from Tony’s Villa Rosa.

Jenny’s Penguin Patch Holiday Shoppe was open for the children’s holiday shopping.  There were 100 different gifts for the children to purchase at a cost from 25-cents to $10 each.  A portion of the proceeds from each vendor was returned back to the FSP to support its programs for the children.
