District 157-C Education Foundation awards new grants

$49,978 awarded to District 157-C schools

The Frankfort School District 157-C Education Foundation awarded grants totaling $49,978 to enhance the education of the students at all schools. For Grand Prairie Elementary School, the Foundation awarded funding for classroom listening libraries, SMARTBoards with software, Raz-kids guided reading materials and the Fast Math program.  At Chelsea Intermediate School, the Foundation awarded funding for SMARTBoards, digital signage and Bluestem reading incentive books and materials.  For Hickory Creek Middle School, the Foundation awarded funding for cardio equipment and Rebecca Caudill reading incentive books and materials.

The Foundation is comprised of a group of volunteers who help obtain funds to be granted to the teachers to enhance education.  Grant money is provided through funds received from the Foundation’s annual fundraising auction, corporate sponsors and private donations.  District 157-C Superintendent of Schools Dr. Thomas A. Hurlburt stated, “The tireless work of the current and past Foundation members has improved instruction for today and for years to come. Our primary focus over the past few years has been on equipping all necessary rooms with SMARTBoards.”

The Foundation expressed special thanks to its corporate sponsors BMO Harris, Old Plank Trail Bank, Insuresoft, Triple R Childcare, K-12 Teachers Alliance, Ozinga, Walmart, Arnie Bauer Cadillac, FGM Architects and The Horton Group.  The Foundation also thanks the many local area businesses and families that continually support its efforts on behalf of the students.

The Foundation Board asks community members to save the date for its 18th annual fundraising auction on Friday, April 19th at CD & ME in Frankfort. The theme this year is “Sweet 157-C” based on the quote from Aristotle, “The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet.”  The Foundation Board interprets this as education being hard work but the end result is fulfilling.

More information about the fundraising auction will be forthcoming. Additional information about the Education Foundation is with the District Administrative Offices at (815) 469-5922 or at www.ef157c.org.
