Congratulations to the Hilda Walker girls’ basketball team, who won this year’s conference tournament championship at Spencer Crossing School, held November 16-17. The girls opened the tournament against Troy and took a 17-1 lead after the first quarter on the way to a 30-16 win. The girls went on to beat Mokena in the semifinals by a score of 30-18. In the championship game against Hickory Creek, the Wildcats were fighting foul trouble and were down by a point at halftime before storming out to a 44-31 victory. Sydney Nekola hit eight 3-point shots in the championship game including 7 in the second half.
The girls finished with a record of 33-2. Coach Collins and the team would like to thank the teachers, administrators, and students that came out to cheer on the Wildcats. They would also like to thank Mrs. Driscoll and the Pep Club for their support, Ms. Satalic for filling in as coach, and all of the teachers that helped with crowd control and scorekeeping.
Mr. Collins would also like to thank the girls for all of their hard work, both on the court and off, saying, “You represent this school with class and always do things ‘the Walker Way’.” Congratulations!
