Food, Toy Drives Continue: How Do You Help Out During the Holidays?

We list charitable efforts by Sports and Spine Chiropractic, Dr. Julian Rogus Kindergarten, Frankfort FIre Protection District and the Frankfort Police Department. Plus, tell us about other ways residents can give back to their community this season.

The holidays don't just mean gift-giving for people. They also bring out people's altruistic urges for charitable giving. 

Local organizations and businesses are helping out with various food, toy and clothing drives to help residents in need. Throughout the season, we'll be spotlighting different charitable ways people can give and help out.

Sports and Spine Chiropractic Toy Drive

Where:
When: Through Dec. 21
What to donate: New, unwrapped toys or games.
Who it helps: Donations go to the South Suburban Toys For Kids program and given to needy children before Christmas. People who donate will receive a free chiropractic adjustment.

Frankfort Fire Protection District Toy Drive

Where: All five stations for the .
When: Through Dec. 16
What to donate: New, unwrapped toys. No stuffed animals. 
Who it helps: Toys for Tots program sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps.

Dr. Julian Rogus Kindergarten Holiday Food Drive

Where:
When: Through Dec. 12
What to donate: Nonperishable food items.
Who it helps: Families in need identified by the Frankfort Area Jaycess.

Frankfort Police Department Food Drive

Where:
When: Home donation pick-ups will be Dec. 21. Call 815-469-9435 by Dec. 16 for pick-up service.
What to donate: Peanut butter, jelly, baking products, salt, pepper, Flour, sugar (brown and white, Velveeta cheese, coffee, tea, fruit cups for school lunches, canned mushrooms, canned asparagus, popcorn, pasta dishes, granola bars, pickles, canned fruit, cereal, salad dressing, mayonnaise, olives (green and black), fruit snacks, toilet paper, diapers (sizes 4,5 and 6), feminine products, dish soap, tissues, deodorant, laundry products, cleaning supplies, and paper bags (for shopping).
