Dance anyway you want too, yes please

It might not always be pretty but when someone tells me to dance anyway I want to I just can’t resist, especially when it’s the Silly Dance Contest sung by Jim Gill.  Special thanks to the Friends of the Frankfort Library who generously sponsored his latest visit to Frankfort.  It was nothing more than a room full of smiles, singing and laughter on Friday night!

I was granted the opportunity to speak before Jim went on to sing and dance the night away about what the Friends actually do for the library and the community.  While brief because let’s face it, would someone rather sit and listen to all the things we do or get down and boogie with their families, it must have made an impact on some as I was approached later to inquire more about how to join the Friends.

Featuring the Silly Dance Contest that is a huge hit down to the Soup Opera; words, emotions and different musical styles ranging from classical, folk, opera and more, the songs bring it all home to be enjoyed by the masses.  Kids, moms, dads and grandparents all joined in the singing and dancing and Gill’s message of working together to help kids engage and develop the love of reading rang throughout the program.  When any task is made more enticing with music or fun you forget about the challenge or obstacles that might be in your way.

Our library is always there for so many different things in our community, learning traditionally through reading, engaging in singing and dancing, programs offered for computers, tracing our ancestors, book clubs and so much more.  With everything, it all comes with a price tag attached that sometimes the budget just can’t cover.  That is why we ask for more of our patrons to join us in the efforts to always have something for everyone and become a Friend of the Frankfort Library.  While we might not move mountains, with Jim Gill on the banjo, we sure can move our bodies and cut some rug.
