Being the Good

A local resident give a little back to the community and it's people that she holds dear to her heart.

Sometimes with these “feel good” situations it’s hard not to sound cliché but a cliché in moderation is fine with me.  I love Frankfort, as well as many other places on this planet, for the time being this is where I live, play, and work and raise my family.  Including me!  From trying to start up a business and also still working at being a successful real estate agent, I try to be a part of the community anyway I can.  Sometimes it can be as simple as shopping at a local small business within our city or being a member of a group, or many.  Trying to start up a business and also still trying to be a successful real estate agent.

Living your life isn’t easy with all the pitfalls that surround us, car problems, bills, school, work, the list is endless and sometimes we just let life get in the way.  When is the last time you talked to your neighbor?  How about a stranger?  Picked up a piece of garbage blowing in the wind?  Just generally gone a little out of your way to make someone else’s life a little better, happier, and easier?  I’m not saying stop everyone you meet or spend a week cleaning up your neighborhood and forget about the things you need to do for you and to make your life work but, just stop and be sometime.  Be a little less self absorbed, a little less stressed, a little less concerned about what someone else is doing, buying, getting and you’re not.  Just be the good.

Sometimes people might think you or I are doing these things for the attention or to show them up.  Personally I love the way it makes me feel to try and put down the frustrations and do something.  Anything that makes me feel alive and giving back to the greater good.  These are sometimes called Random Acts of Kindness.

Starting nearly 3 birthdays ago I began celebrating by doing random acts, RAKs, for the age I was.  Going up to people with a scratcher ticket, maybe a card or a note, the past two years I extended it to the entire month before my birthday and while I wanted to blog about it each day last year some things came up and I fell off the wagon, not for the kindness, just the publishing.  This year I felt like if I didn’t give it a voice I wouldn’t be able to put thoughts out there for people that want to make a difference and feel overwhelmed in how to go about doing it.  It doesn’t take money or much time and most things we all do, or try to do each and every day.  It’s nice to bring it out in the open to inspire others that might not be ready to give back yet.

While I am frantically typing to catch up to my acts, I hope you will let me or your friends or strangers know how great you feel when you put thought behind your actions and maybe do some extra acts of your own.
