An amazing individual; Geraldine Dunham

Saying farewell to a dear member of our community.

It’s never easy to say good bye to anyone but knowing it’s a final farewell, it makes it the most difficult thing to face.  Geraldine Dunham was a woman that so many had the pleasure knowing.  Whether it was for a lifetime or a passing moment, she was a woman I never saw without a smile on her face and never anything but a kind word to share.

I did not have a chance to work side by side with her as she performed in the medical field as a nurse for 45 years or to sit on the sidelines of a sporting event cheering on one of her four sons.  No late night bridge games laughing and scratching with old girlfriends about their life adventures or traveling the globe finding fun along the way.  The time I had with her in the walls of the library or putting together various events made an impact on me.  Just listening to her talk about friends or family or the love a great book gave a little glimpse into what kind of woman she was; kind, thoughtful and loving.  To see other friends light up when they tell a story about her, shares a kind memory of better times.

Geri, as she is lovingly called, when on to bigger and better things leaving an incredible legacy behind.  As a fellow board members of the Friends of the Frankfort Library we decided to honor her memory with a book, plated in dedication for what she gave back to so many in the community and many others.  Dear friends, Judy Herder, Pat Ricker and Linda Urbanski found a book they felt would best suit Geri and her attributes to not only the Friends but to everyone she has touched.

You might have come across the lovely book over the past couple weeks on the shelves.  Nursing; The Finest Art.  Not only is there interesting information about nursing, there are fantastic illustrations as well.  The finest art, much like our friend.  Thank you to Geri for all the time that she has given of herself to improve the lives of others in all ways possible.  We will continue to keep her and her family and friends in our thoughts and hearts.  Godspeed Geri.
