Walk for Diabetes Awareness

Lincoln-Way East High School students are teaming up the Frankfort Lions Club to raise awareness of diabetes, who it affects and how it affects those who have it.

Students are helping to organize a three-mile charity walk with proceeds going to the American Diabetes Association, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and community members in need of services.

The walk will be held in conjunction with Make a Difference Day, a national day of helping others.

"Each year, the Lincoln-Way East students and staff rally behind Make a Difference Day," said Kathryn Meader, the student activities coordinator at Lincoln-Way East. "This year, we wanted our attention focused on giving back to our communities. With the partnership in the Frankfort Lions Club, we are able to branch out into our community and walk alongside our neighbors, friends and classmates to truly make a difference for those with diabetes."

Among the student clubs, activities and athletes taking part in the walk are East's Key Club, Interact Club, softball team, International Club, Black and Blue Crew, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Teens Against Tobacco Use, Snowball, Calliope and Grandgriffins.
