Frankfort Woman to Compete in Rose of Tralee Contest

Frankfort's Mary Kate Monahan, 21, will be wearing the crown as South Side Irish Queen when she competes at 8 p.m. Friday in the Chicago Rose of Tralee contest at the Irish American Heritage Center, 4626 N. Knox Ave., Chicago.

She is one of 40 women from 18-27 of Irish heritage competing to represent Chicago in Tralee, Ireland, at the Rose of Tralee International Festival in June. 

The selection takes place in the Erin Ballroom and the 40 contestants will participate in the St. Patrick’s Festival on March 12. The staged event will be held Friday night at 8 p.m. and the cost is $20 for adults and $5 for children. The winner will be announced Saturday evening at the St. Patrick’s Festival.
