The Arc of Illinois 64th Annual Convention

The Arc of Illinois 64th Annual Convention “Rebalancing! Creating  Opportunities from Challenges"will be taking place April 23-24, 2014 at the Hilton Hotel in Lisle, IL. This two day convention will inspire self-advocates and families to be empowered to create opportunities from challenges. There are twenty-four breakout sessions, three keynote speakers, two luncheon presentations and a Wednesday evening reception presentation.  That is over 30 presenters throughout the two day duration of the convention!
Our first keynote presentation on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 is “The Implementation of the Affordable Care Act in Illinois” presented by Stephanie Altman, J.D.  Also on Wednesday is “Digging for Treasure in People (Without Getting Buried Alive)” presented by Caroline McGraw.  Caroline will explain how we can help people with special needs live a fulfilling life in the community.  On Thursday, April 24, 2014 the keynote presentation will be “Rebalancing The Big Picture: A Real Turning Point for Illinois” presented by Director Kevin Casey, Director Sheila Romano, and Tony Records.  They will discuss the Ligas Consent Decree, The Governor’s Rebalancing Initiative, Employment First and many other steps Illinois is taking to build inclusive communities.
Our Wednesday evening reception entertainment is back by popular demand!  If you were at last year’s 63rd Annual Convention or at 2013’s Speak Up and Speak Out Summit then you remember Anthony and Nicholas Billups.  Their musical performances are excellent and the story of their brotherly love will bring tears to your eyes.  During lunch we have Tim Harris of Tim’s Place presenting “If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It”.  We were lucky to meet Tim at the 2013 Speak Up and Speak Out Summit.  Tim is such an accomplished and inspiring young man, his presentation is something you don’t want to miss!
