Softball: Jarrell, Hart Help Lincoln-Way East Open Season in Style
Lincoln-Way East 11, Oak Lawn 1 (6 innings): Nikki Jarrell's three-run triple in the second inning propels Griffins to victory, and Kaycee Hart's pitching and two-run homer help seal the deal.
Touching All the Bases: Nikki Jarrell tripled and drove in three runs in her first at-bat of the season to put Lincoln-Way East ahead 3-1 in the second inning. The Griffins never looked back, cruising to an 11-1 home win. Winning pitcher Kaycee Hart surrendered a run in the first inning but settled down to throw three scoreless innings before the bullpen finished things. Hart added a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Jenny Gray smashed an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to induce the 10-run mercy rule.
Patch’s MVP: Kaycee Hart. She picked up the victory while yielding just one run in four innings. She also singled and hit a two-run homer.
Lincoln-Way East Leaders: In addition to Hart: Nikki Jarrell tripled and drove in four runs; Jill Reid singled and tripled; Lisa Holcomb scored three runs.
