Softball: Jarrell, Hart Help Lincoln-Way East Open Season in Style

Lincoln-Way East 11, Oak Lawn 1 (6 innings): Nikki Jarrell's three-run triple in the second inning propels Griffins to victory, and Kaycee Hart's pitching and two-run homer help seal the deal.

Touching All the Bases: Nikki Jarrell tripled and drove in three runs in her first at-bat of the season to put Lincoln-Way East ahead 3-1 in the second inning. The Griffins never looked back, cruising to an 11-1 home win. Winning pitcher Kaycee Hart surrendered a run in the first inning but settled down to throw three scoreless innings before the bullpen finished things. Hart added a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Jenny Gray smashed an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to induce the 10-run mercy rule.

Quotable II: Lincoln-Way East coach Katie Meader on getting ahead and being able to use her bench. "It was a great opportunity to get everyone in. You don't want someone's first game to be eight games down the road, so it was good to start like this and loosen up a bit and get ready for our next game."

Team Records: Lincoln-Way East is 1-0. Oak Lawn is 0-1.

What’s Next: Lincoln-Way East hosts Argo on March 25. Oak Lawn will battle Stagg on Saturday.
