Smucker's Peanut Butter Recall Doesn't Affect Frankfort Grocery Stores

Jars of Smucker's Natural Peanut Butter Chunky have been recalled by the Ohio-based company, but the tainted product hasn't hit the village's grocery chains.

But the recall doesn't seem to be affecting the big grocery stores in Frankfort. A store manager at said the chain's corporate headquarters told stores haven't received the tainted peanut butter. does not stock the brand, an assistant store manager said.

A message left at corporate headquarters in Oak Brook was not returned.

The recalled jars have a "best if used by" date of Aug. 3, 2012 and Aug. 4, 2012, plus the production codes 1307004 and 1308004, according to the article.

Most persons infected with salmonella bacteria develop diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Most people recover within a week, but some may require hospitalization; in rare cases, the infection can be fatal.
