Will County Board News

The Will County Board held its monthly meeting on September 19, 2013.  Here are the highlights from that meeting:

·       The Will County Board recognized Take Back the Night Joliet & Northern Will County and Proclaimed October as National Cyber Security Awareness Month

·       The Board approved several resolutions at the recommendation of the Public Works and Transportation Committee. Three such resolutions involved projects in my district, District 2, they were:  the Award of Contract to “D” Construction, Inc. ($72,367.50) let on August 21, 2013 – Laraway Road (CH 74) over West Fork, East Branch of Hickory Creek;  a Resolution Granting County Aid in Construction of a Bridge over Forked Creek on Pauling Road as Petitioned by Green Garden Road District; and a Resolution Approving the Jurisdictional Transfer of Center Road (CH 19) from Laraway Road (CH 74) to Steger Road to the Village of Frankfort

·       The Board adopted a several resolutions in advance of a potential strike by union employees that will benefit non-union employees that will allow them to sign up benefits during the October enrollment period.  The are: a Resolution Authorizing County of Will Voluntary Furlough Plan; a Resolution Authorizing the County Executive to Bind Coverage and Execute Contracts with Designated Carriers for the Renewal of Will County Comprehensive Group Benefits Plan (“Group Benefits”);  a Resolution regarding the Adoption of Amended Will County Comprehensive Group Benefit Plan and Establishment of Benefit Plan Premium Contributions for Managerial Employees, Non-Bargaining Unit Employees, Elected Officials and Retirees; a Resolution Approving Wellvation Employee Wellness Management/Mayo Clinic Health Solutions as Wellness Program Services Provider for the Revised Will County Comprehensive Group Benefits Plan and Resolution Approving Premiums and Premium Equivalents for Will County

·       The Board also approved Resolution Authorizing the County Executive to Execute Third Renewal of Intergovernmental Agreement for Ombudsman Services for South Suburban Airport.  However, the vote was not unanimous.  The ombudsman acts as an independent intermediary between the property owners affected by the South Suburban Airport and the Illinois Department of Transportation, and works to facilitate communication between the parties and ensure that property owners are aware of their rights. While such a role is a good one, the Board members who voted “nay”, including myself, do not believe the proposed south suburban airport, as well as the proposed Illiana Expressway, will benefit the residents of Will County.

The next Will County Board meeting is Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in the County Board Room, 2nd Floor of the Will County Office Building located at 302 N. Chicago Street, Joliet, Illinois.  All Will County residents are invited to attend.
