Will County Board News

Will County News

The Will County Board held its monthly meeting on March 21, 2013.  Here are the highlights from that meeting:

  • The Board recognized Provena St. Joseph Medical Center and the excellent service that it provides to the residents of Will County.
  • The Board denied a request by Lenny's Gas and Wash LLC to amend the local zoning map from C-3 to C-2 for one parcel and for several special use permits seeking to operate a gas station with car wash, sell packaged liquor and to operate a drive-up food service.  The proposed gas station at 194th Street and Harlem Avenue was opposed by many nearby residents who feared it would increase noise and traffic through their streets.  County board members Dave Izzo and Jim Moustis, whose district would have been impacted by the development, sided with the residents and voted no on all matters brought by the applicant.  It is unknown at this time if the applicant will file suit to appeal the decision.
  • Numerous resolutions were passed authorizing approval of professional services agreements for local road projects.  Monies obtained through the RTA tax funds were used to fund these projects.
  • Two resolutions were passed establishing Will County's 2013 state and federal legislative agendas and priorities.  The resolutions were originally tabled at the February meeting to allow new board members to obtain and digest information relating to the South Suburban Airport.   The resolutions were approved on a 24-2 vote.  The lone dissenters were Judy Ogalla of District 1, which is where the airport is proposed to be built, and Dave Izzo of District 2, who has previously expressed his concerns in the past that a 3rd airport is just not feasible.

The next Will County Board meeting is Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in the County Board Room, 2nd Floor of the Will County Office Building located at 302 N. Chicago Street, Joliet, Illinois.  All Will County residents are invited to attend.
