Parents of welding and construction students invited to informational meeting

Topics include dual credit, School to Apprentice summer job opportunities and how to get into the trade unions.

 

   Parents of welding and construction students are invited to an informational meeting Sept. 12 to learn more about the opportunities available to their sons and daughters.

   “We are committed to the success of our students,” said Daymon Gast, chair of the Agriculture and Industrial Technology Department at Lincoln-Way East and Lincoln-Way North high schools. “Parents play an important role in that success, and we want to make sure they are aware of the various opportunities that are available to students enrolled in our career courses.”

   On Sept. 12, Gast and welding instructor Marc Hucek will review such topics as:

  • Personal protective equipment in the shops
  • Dual credit for welding students offered through Joliet Junior College
  • School to Apprentice summer job opportunities
  • Welding contests at Joliet Junior College, Midwest Technical Institute, Pipefitters 597 and others
  • How to get into the trade unions
  • Welding class: Processes, Safety and Projects
  • Adult Welding Class opportunities

 

   The one-hour meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Griffins’ Lair at Lincoln-Way East High School.
