Lincoln-Way North students honored for academics

Among those honored were students with the 10 highest grade point averages as well as the school's Illinois State Scholars, PSAE All-Stars, Honor Roll students and High Honor Roll students.

 

   Nearly 1,100 Lincoln-Way North High School students were honored Monday (March 25) for their academic achievements and accomplishments in school activities.

   “Our students have done extremely well and it is a pleasure to recognize them tonight,” stated Dr. Michael Gardner, principal at Lincoln-Way North.

   Parents, teachers and administrators gathered in the school auditorium to pay tribute to the students with the 10 highest grade point averages from each class as well as the school’s Illinois State Scholars, PSAE All-Stars, National Merit Finalists, Commended Scholars, Honor Roll students and High Honor Roll students.

 

   They also recognized the school’s SWSC All-Conference students and SWSC All-Academic students, as well as its state and national qualifiers.

 

   At the end of the evening, they recognized a Student of the Year from each academic department. Teachers selected the students based on their talents, leadership and positive attitudes throughout their years at Lincoln-Way.

 

   Among those honored Monday night were the Top 10 students from the Class of 2013. They are: Christian Gorski, Caitlin Broderick, Lauren Sajewich, Jennifer Zobak, Nicholas Bielanski, Michael Lanigan, Rachel Lahr, Matthew Murray, Samantha Klosak and Moira Quealy.

 

   Also honored were the Top 10 students from the Class of 2014. They are: Jack Quirk, Calvin Duong, John Scott, Savanna Steck, Nicole Suhm, Katherine Reynolds, Zubair Farooqui, Erin Creedon, Elizabeth Warkocki and Evan Surma.

 

   The Top 10 students from the Class of 2015 are: Alison DeBruyn, Devin Werner, David Arnold, Justine Ivanov, Laura Rovak, Nora Ward, Ryan Arnold, Patrick McGuire, Joyce Kim and Nina Pelsi.

 

   The Top 10 students from the Class of 2016 are: Hannah Goss, Carly Marchal, Ashley Pop, Clare Maylone, Mayrna Dababneh, Natalie Ruzevich, Samantha Ritter, Violet Kuchta, Justin Corp and Allison Gerk.

 

   The school’s Illinois State Scholars are: Rachel Anderson, Alexander Arvia III, Lauren Ashack, Nicole Baker, Jennifer Bechtold, Nicholas Bielanski, Jaclyn Billie, Claire Brezinski, Caitlin Broderick, Patrick Budney, Michelle Burlinski, Jennifer Buswell, Emily Chudzik, Christopher Cranston, Margaret Curtin, Milos Cvjetkovic, Heather Daly, Cheyenne Degraff, Jaime DeRuiter, Elizabeth Doubrawa, Jillian Galich, Christian Gorski, Haley Hamann, Joshua Handzik, Sarah Hastings, Troy Holder, Valeri Hooper, Casey Houlihan, Dana Keck, Amish Khan, Joshua Kim, Sarah Kirby, Samantha Klosak and Olivia Knuth.

   “I would like to congratulate all of the students honored here tonight,” said Gardner. “All of you should be proud of your academic accomplishments and your activity accomplishments. You are achieving at a very high level at a high school district where academics are extremely important.

 

   “I would remind you, however, as I always do, that academic excellence is not an end to itself but a continuous journey that requires your continuous attention and perseverance,” he continued. “Don’t ever, ever give up or let down. Congratulations to each of you and to you, our parents, on a job well done.”
