Lincoln-Way East students honored for academics and activities

Among those honored were the school's Illinois State Scholars, PSAE All-Stars, Honor Roll students, High Honor Roll students and students with perfect attendance.

   More than 1,000 Lincoln-Way East High School students were honored Monday (April 29) for their achievements in the classroom as well as in clubs and activities.

 

   “Tonight, we are here to honor those who have met and exceeded our expectations,” said Lincoln-Way East Associate Principal Aimee Feehery.

   Parents, teachers and administrators gathered in the school auditorium for its annual Griffin Recognition Night, paying tribute to the school’s Illinois State Scholars, National Merit Commended Scholars, National Merit Finalists, PSAE All-Stars, Honor Roll students, High Honor Roll students and students with perfect attendance.

   Also recognized were the students who have participated in a club or activity all four years as well as those who have maintained a grade point average of 3.5 GPA or higher for at least seven consecutive semesters while participating in at least one SouthWest Suburban Conference (SWSC) activity, such as chess, choir, contest play, debate team, Mathletes, Scholastic Bowl, speech or marching band.

 

   “I congratulate our students who have risen to their potential,” said Feehery, before introducing the Top 10 students from each class.

 

   The Top 10 students from the Class of 2013 are: Konrad Goc, Stephen Johnson, Kara Ferracuti, Alyssa McBride, Eamonn Hughes, Kelsey Maka, James von Albade, Ryan Bird, Nicole Rainford and Emma Vanderpool.

 

   The Top 10 students from the Class of 2014 are: Kasper Borys, Kurt Lezon, Emily Sheetz, Chase Fugett, Michael Rossetto, Emily Davis, Alexandra Dworakowski, Amanda Small, Kaylee Bortscheller and Rebecca Gerske.

 

   The Top 10 students from the Class of 2015 are: Brianna McKenna, Sedona Cady, Timothy Vyhnanek, Hannah Lynn, Kelsey Bailey, Jackson Bax, Kenichi Haynie, Erica Sestak, Sara Groth and Nicholas Cesario.

 

   The Top 10 students from the Class of 2016 are: Nell Borys, Christine Kettman, Kaylee Williams, Claire Juracka, Morgan Samanic, Austin Pearson, Kate Wardenburg, Grace Juracka, Renee Liden, Jennifer Franceschini and Bailey Leavy.

 

   The school’s National Merit Commended Scholars are:  Kevin Beebe, Caitlin Duffner, Eamonn Hughes, Kelsey Maka, Alyssa McBride, Curtis Olbrich, Nicole Rainford, Allison Rymut and Alexander Vogt.

 

   The school’s National Merit Semi-Finalists are Jessica Bicek, Ryan Bird, Michaela Cantu, Konrad Goc, Tyler Scaletta and James von Albade.

 

   The school’s National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholars are Kara Ferracuti and Joel Ruby.

 

   In attendance at the awards ceremony was a representative of the U.S. Marine Corps who presented Semper Fi Awards to Jonathan Junkroski, recipient of the Distinguished Athlete Award; Konrad Goc, recipient of the Scholastic Excellence Award; and Mark Reczek and Danielle Watt, recipients of the Musical Excellence Award.

 

   Toward the end of the evening, faculty members from each department presented awards to students who have displayed talent, leadership and a positive attitude throughout their years at Lincoln-Way East. The Student of the Year awards were presented to:

  • Christina Mizera, family and consumer sciences

  • Emily Grigoletti, reading

  • Emma Vanderpool, social science

  • Emma Vanderpool, world languages

 

   Teachers and administrators also honored the school’s PSAE All-Stars.    Also recognized were seniors with perfect attendance. They are: Jennifer Chudoba, Frank Lewandowski, Alyssa McGann, Brandon Nice, Joseph Papp, Kelsey Piech, Miguel Sahagun, Madison Squires and Christopher Wendt.
