L-W North student selected to serve as Lt. Governor for Key Club

For the second year in a row, a Lincoln-Way North High School student has been selected to serve as Lt. Governor for one of the largest Key Club divisions in the area.

Ashleigh Glecier, a junior at North, was picked to fill the post by her peers in the Illinois-Eastern Iowa District of Key Club, a service leadership program within the Kiwanis family.

If she ever needs advice from the past Lt. Governor, she won’t have very far to go. Ashleigh’s older sister, Amber, held the post for the past year.

“I’m really happy for her,” said Amber, a high school senior who is gradating in June. She has already started prepping Ashleigh for the leadership role.

“It’s a lot of work,” she added, “but it’s definitely worth it.”

As Lt. Governor, Ashleigh will visit the clubs of her division, serve as a liaison between the clubs and the district, and respond to any concerns or problems held by an individual club.

She also will host a Fall Leadership Rally to train individual club officers and host division councils to allow for a forum for clubs to share new ideas for service.

In addition, Ashleigh will publish a divisional newsletter to communicate with the clubs and with the District.

“There are a lot of forms to fill out every month,” said Amber, “so it’s important you do everything on time.”

She is confident Ashleigh will do a good job for Key Club. The officer-elect will be sworn in to office at the District Convention this weekend (March 1-3) in Bloomingdale.

“Ashleigh is driven and congenial and possesses the talents that will help her connect to and serve the other clubs of our division in goal setting, service planning, and leadership training,” said social science teacher and Key Club sponsor Matthew Jordan. “In fact, Ashleigh will represent what is best about Lincoln-Way North to the other schools across the Illinois-Eastern Iowa District. We are very proud of her and of the Glecier family for their service and commitment to Key Club.”

Among the schools Ashleigh will be working with in the Illinois-Eastern Iowa District of Key Club are: Lincoln-Way North, Lincoln-Way East, Joliet Catholic, Joliet Central, Joliet West, Manteno, Watseka, Crete-Monee, Bloom, Rich Central, Rich East and Rich South.

“It was such a great experience,” Amber said of her year as Lt. Governor. “I learned a lot about being a leader.

“I’m sad it’s over,” she added. “But I’m glad my sister is able to experience it.”
