L-W East student athletes sign Letters of Intent

Students headed to Millikin, Robert Morris, Olivet Nazarene, Illinois Wesleyan, Grand Valley State, Carthage College, Benedictine University, Loras College, St. Xavier University and Augustana.

   Twenty-one student athletes from Lincoln-Way East High School are ready to take their skills to the next level.

 

   The students recently signed National Letters of Intent with colleges and universities from across the country. They gathered in Griffins’ Lair this week for a recognition ceremony.

   “This is a very special day for us,” Lincoln-Way East Athletic Director Mark Vander Kooi told the college-bound students who were joined in the Lair by their parents, coaches and fellow teammates.

   “These student athletes have worked very hard to get where they’re at,” he added. “We congratulate them for earning this opportunity to compete at the college level.”

 

  Those honored April 30 and May 1 for signing National Letters of Intent were:

  • Nick Colangelo, football, Olivet Nazarene University
  • Nick Cocorikis, football, Illinois Wesleyan University

  • Meaghan Grady, soccer, Millikin University
  • Andy Gramont, swimming, Grand Valley State
  • Courtney Grever, track and field, Carthage College
  • Katie Kazmierczak, soccer, Loras College
  • Jarret Lecas, football, Benedictine University
  • Carl McCauley, lacrosse, Illinois Wesleyan University
  • Hanna McClard, soccer, Millikin University
  • Adam O’Grady, football, Illinois Wesleyan University
  • Jim Ralph, soccer, Loras College
  • Katie Reno, golf, St. Xavier University
  • Mike Roth, soccer, Augustana College
  • Tim Smith, lacrosse, Illinois Wesleyan University

   “Go represent our school with pride at the college level,” Vander Kooi told the students before thanking their parents for their support as well as the coaches for their hard work and commitment to students.

 

   “We are blessed at East with phenomenal coaches who care about kids,” he said.
