L-W East, L-W North Students Compete at FBLA Conference

Students bring home awards in such areas as Business Law, Computer Applications and Web Page Design

and high school students clearly have what it takes to be Future Business Leaders of America.

The students participated in a recent Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) conference in Lemont and brought home multiple awards in such areas as Business Law, Computer Applications and Web Page Design.

“I am so proud of  the students,” said career and tech teacher Denise Budney who sponsors the FBLA program at Lincoln-Way East. “Their time and effort was evident in the results. They cannot wait for state.”

“The events that involve a business presentation are giving students a real world application of what they learn in the classroom,” agreed business department chair Christine Ahearn who sponsors the FBLA program at Lincoln-Way North.

“The North FBLA students did such a great job,” she added, “and we are looking forward to the state competition in March.”

Lincoln-Way students competed against students from 11 other schools in the Central Northern Illinois Area at the FBLA Central Northern Area Leadership Conference on Jan. 21.

Among the Lincoln-Way East FBLA students who won awards were:

  • Mitchell Cunningham - 1st place in Business Law
  • John O’Keeffe - 1st place in Introduction to Technology Concepts
  • Jared Nathenson 1st place in Computer Applications
  • Jeff O’Keeffe & Lucas Puskaric – 2nd place in Web Page Design
  • Michael Mitchell 2nd place in Help Desk
  • Gary Tsokato 3rd place in Economics
  • Jeff O’Keeffe 4th place in Computer Applications
  • Marcus Smith 6th place in Business Calculations

Among the Lincoln-Way North FBLA students who won awards were:

  • Matt Ostrowski - 2nd place in Business Calculations
  • Michael Meade - 2nd place in Business Presentation
  • Jake Dammer - 2nd place in Economics
  • Dave Fanciullacci & Joe Schuit - 2nd place in Marketing
  • Shawn MacDougall - 5th place in Introduction to Business Communications
  • Billy Moisan - 5th place in Sports Management
  • Imani Simmons-Eloie & Shelby Zagorski - 6th place in Entrepreneurship

The awards were part of a comprehensive competitive events program sponsored annually by Central Northern Area Chapters of the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc. (FBLA-PBL).

Individuals, teams, and local chapters were encouraged to compete in a host of events representing a wide range of activities and the business and leadership development focus of FBLA-PBL. They also participated in a one-day event that included business and leadership training workshops and seminars, and election of area officers. 

Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc. (FBLA-PBL) is the national business education association that prepares students for careers in business and business education.  Its members, belonging to more than 6,000 chartered chapters, include students from the United States, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Europe.  Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is the high school division and Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) is designed for post-secondary and college students.
