L-W East honors PSAE All-Stars

   Lincoln-Way East High School recently honored 41 students who exceeded state standards in all three areas of the Prairie State Achievement Exam (PSAE).

   The exam, which is given to high school juniors every spring, measures student achievement in reading, mathematics and science.

   “Thank you for all your efforts,” Dr. Scott Tingley, principal, told students during a special breakfast celebration before school Sept. 18. “It’s impressive to have this many exceed state standards.”

   Last year, the school honored 20 PSAE All-Stars who exceeding state standard on the state exam. This year, it honored 41.

   Among those honored this year were: Lucas Aleck, Mitchell Arvidson, Jack Bainbridge, Jessica Bicek, Ryan Bird, Michaela Cantu, Veronica Connolly, Rachael Digrazia, Nicholas Dudczyk, Caitlin Duffner, Thomas Gilman, Luke Greenfield, Scott Hammond, Chad Hosman, Gregory Jennrich, Jonathan Junkroski, Anthony Kaplan and Bradley Kosinski.

   Also honored were: Kelsey Maka, Michael Marinier, Alyssa McBride, Curtis Olbrich, Thomas Piet, Joseph Piscia, Lucas Raczek, Nicole Rainford, Mark Reczek, Michael Reda, Maureen Rice, Jessie Roemer, Michael Rollberg, Joel Ruby, Allison Rymut, Tyler Scaletta, Patrick Shea, Spencer Smith, Daniel Sobczak, Kelly Twohig, Jimmy Uteg, Alexander Vogt and James von Albade.

   Their photos will displayed in a special case near the main entrance to East. Students took the exam last spring when they were juniors at the school.

   The exam included three components:

1)      the ACT (omit writing)

2)      an ISBE-developed science assessment

3)      two WorkKeys assessments (Applied Mathematics and Reading for Information)

   This year’s junior class (the Class of 2014) will take the PSAE on April 23 & 24.

   Like previous students, their individual achievement will be measured relative to the Illinois Learning Standards and College & Career Readiness Standards, which were developed by curriculum experts and Illinois teachers in collaboration with the Illinois State Board of Education and ACT.

   Results will be reported by subject according to four performance levels: exceeds standards, meets standards, below standards and academic warning.

   “We are very proud of our PSAE All-Stars this year and challenge our juniors to do their best this April to also be among the top as well,” said Lincoln-Way East Associate Principal Aimee Feehery.
