All four Lincoln-Way High School District 210 schools hosted an open house for the Class of 2016 this week, inviting students and their parents to learn more about Lincoln-Way and what to expect at the high school level.

and Lincoln-Way West held their open houses on Tuesday (Feb. 7).  Lincoln-Way Central and Lincoln-Way East opened their schools to the Class of 2016 on Wednesday (Feb. 8).

At East’s open house, students and their parents had an opportunity explore elective course options and ask questions about education programs, high school expectations, clubs, activities and athletics.

In the gymnasium, they had an opportunity to learn from student athletes, club members and activity sponsors about how to get involved in after-school activities, such as Chess Club, Student Council and Grand Griffins.

“Don’t leave that gym until you find one you want to do next year,” said Tingley.

PPS Director Michele Newswander encouraged students to see a counselor in the Griffins’ Lair if they wanted to add an elective, such as a world language, to their schedule freshman year.

Most freshmen take an English, math, science, social science, reading and health/PE class their first year, she said, but schedules can be adjusted to accommodate an elective.

Teachers were on hand to talk about their classes and to answer questions.

“Tonight is a big night for us,” said Tingley. “Our hope is that you will feel a little less apprehensive and that you will get excited about next fall. It will be here sooner than you think.”

He concluded with the school’s slogan: Go East! Go Griffins! Go Blue!
