The people have spoken—and tasted—and the results we've all been waiting for are in.
After two fierce rounds in the Patch Pizza Playoffs, the most-loved pizza in the Southland has emerged. We started with eight brackets of competitors. The No. 1 vote-getter in each bracket moved to the championship round and the finalists were judged on three factors—the number of votes, positive reviews on each restaurant's Patch listing and the all-important blind taste test.
Tasters from the Patch audience last Thursday were critical and took their jobs seriously. They applauded the sauteed veggies in pies from Mama and Me in Homewood, the tasty sausage from Salina's Pizza in Tinley Park, flavorful sauce from Al's Pizzeria in Palos Heights and sweet sauce from Palermo's in Frankfort.
So what's the skinny?
- Coming out on top in the final-round polling, with 9,412 votes: Pizza Pete in Orland Park.
- Topping out on reviews with 30 postings from users (whose e-mail addresses we verified) was Salina's Pizza & Catering.
- And the winner of the blind taste test was Palermo's in Frankfort.
But based on overall results ...
The Most-loved Pizza in the Southland is … (drum roll)
Congratulations to Salina's, and thank you to all the pizza makers who participated.
This settles the question of who bakes the most-loved pizza pie in all the Southland, right? Of course not! Let the debate begin anew. Happy dining, and thank you to all the Patch readers who voted and offered reviews and comments.
