Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt Opens In Frankfort

Sweet Frog Premium Yogurt in Frankfort has more than 70 flavors and 50-plus toppings.

Sweet Frog Premium Frozen Yogurt is set to open its doors on Friday. It's just in time to take part in the Frankfort Fall Festival parade that steps off at 1 p.m. Sept. 1 in downtown Frankfort.

The spot that offers a healthy treat is located at 9645 Lincoln-Way Lane, Suite 109. The shop has a menu of 70-plus flavors and will feature 14 specialty flavors, said franchise owner John Sciaccotta of Mokena. Sweet Frog has a variety of seasonal flavors. Cotton candy-flavored yogurt is popular in the summer, and in in the fall, there's a thin-mint yogurt the store will have in stock.

He and wife Liz, who will manage the shop, wanted to open up in the Lincoln-Way communities where they have lived for 18 years.

The store will be open daily from 11:30a.m. till 10 p.m. Along with the variety of yogurt flavors, the shop offers a choice of 50-plus toppings, including fruit-flavored sprinkles. This is the first Sweet Frog franchise in Illinois, he said. "We're proud of that."

Established in 2009, Sweet Frog originated on the East Coast. It has opened 300 shops so far, according to John.

While the couple researched the market for specialty shop franchises, John said they were attracted to the notion of serving a healthy treat alternative. The parents of three children, they appreciated Sweet Frog's proprietary recipes.

The Village of Frankfort is seen as a good market for a healthy-treat oriented shop. The population in the Lincoln-Way communities is looking to live healthy, he said.

Not only are the main options healthy, but the shop also took into consideration the diet restrictions that many in the population adhere to.

Naturally Sweet Frog offers fat-free, sugar-free, gluten-free and kosher-certified options.

Yes, said John, Sweet Frog will be in the parade on Sunday showing off their lime green and hot pink frog mascots, Scoop and Cookie, but more important, they're promoting their commitment to the community.

As residents themselves, Liz said she knew immediately how to get the shop involved in community projects. Already they are steeped in a fundraising venture to support the Lincoln-Way East Music Boosters.
