Sangmeister Building to Be Razed, New Office Building in Its Place

The new office building will be erected next to Francesca's Fortunato, in downtown Frankfort.

A long-standing office building in downtown Frankfort will be demolished to make room for a new, two-story structure, officials decided.

With the recommendation of the Plan Commission and 1890s Theme Committee, trustees approved a plan from Richard Wright for the project, to be built at 28 Kansas Street. The current Sangmeister office building will be razed as part of the project.

The proposed new building will consist of 6,583 square feet on the first floor (retail space) and 6,583 on the second floor.

The 28 Kansas Street project will be designed by architect, The Linden Group and constructed by Rowhouse, Ltd.. A similar architectural theme to the Wright-Harper building is proposed for the new building.

Trustees also accepted the recommendation of the Economic Development committee and directed staff to prepare the necessary documents to move forward with the 28 Kansas Street project and provide funding through an incentive program similar to the Low Interest Loan Program, but in the form of a grant in a maximum amount of $220,000.  This funding will not be available until the end of the project.
