Jenny's Steak House to Move to Mokena

A new barbecue smokehouse restaurant will move in to the steakhouse's downtown location.

will be moving to Mokena within the month, and a new barbecue restaurant will take its place in downtown Frankfort.

The steakhouse will be moving in to the kitchen side of , said Jean Braun, one of the owners of Jenny's. The two businesses share mutual owners, and consolidating the restaurant and the Mokena bar was just a good business decision, she added. Joe's Italian Villa, which currently operates out of 191 South's kitchen, will no longer be in that space.

Smokey Barque, a barbecue smokehouse restaurant, is set to takeover the 20 Kansas St. location. The owners have applied for a village liquor license, and that request goes before the at its meeting Thursday.

Moving was an idea the steakhouse's owners had been considering for about six months, Braun said. But they were looking for the right tenant to rent the Frankfort location, which they own. They found that in Tommy Ridings, Smokey Barque's owner.

"He's got a good product, and we wish him a lot of success," she said.

There are no current plans for any goodbye events, but Braun said she expects the restaurant to do something special for its last days. 

"We've been here for five-and-a-half years," she said. "It's a nice, homey downtown area. We've met a lot of nice people down here. That will be missed, definitely."
