Illinois Home to 15 of America's Richest People

North Side and North Shore money and six Pritzkers make the list.

Illinois is home to 15 of the richest people in the country, according to Forbes, which just published its “Forbes 400,” listing the wealthiest people in America.

Ken Griffin tops the list of Illinois gazillionaires, coming in at spot no. 103. (OK, he’s not a gazillionaire. He’s only worth $4.4 billion from his hedge funds.)

There are six Pritzkers on the list, including Jennifer Pritzker, (no. 327, $1.7 billion) who was previously named James but announced recently that she self-identifies as a woman. Other recognizable names include Sam Zell, (no. 110, $4 billion) and Groupon chairman Eric Lefkofsky (no. 325, $1.75 billion.)

Ten of the 15 live in Chicago, one is in Oak Brook and the rest are on the North Shore.

Nationally, the list was topped by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett.
