Happy Birthday, 7-Eleven! Thanks for the Free Slurpee

The national convenience store chain will be giving away Slurpees at its locations—including Frankfort—from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 11.

In honor of its 85th birthday, 7-Eleven locations across the country——will be giving away free Slurpees.

Customers will be able to pick up free 7.11-ounce Slurpees from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, at participating locations across the country. This has been a tradition for 7-Eleven since 2002, and the national convenience store chain estimates it will give away about 7 million free Slurpees when it's all said and done, according to a company press release.

In addition to the free drinks, some 7-Elevens will be handing out tiny bowties, hair bows and party hats so people can "dress up" for the birthday celebration.

A little bit of Slurpee trivia: Although 7-Eleven is 85 years old, the Slurpee is only 65. The chain began serving the flavored-ice drink in 1967, two years after licensing it from the ICEE Company, according to Wikipedia.
