Green Garden Country Club to Go Up for Sale

The potential sale of the 415-acre golf course, country club and golf dome is part of owner William McEnery's personal bankruptcy case.

is getting ready to be put up for sale, another casualty in the continuing fallout of the financial troubles of the golf course's owner, William McEnery.

The 415-acre country club, golf course and golf dome will be sold to pay off debts as part of McEnery's personal bankruptcy case. McEnery, , filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy himself in August 2011, said Steven L. Victor, the sales agent for Development Specialists Inc., which is handling the golf course's sale.

No one at the golf course was available to talk about the sale, according to a woman answering the phone at Green Garden on Monday.

The golf course sale comes more than a year after , claiming McEnery stopped making payments on a mortgage loan for the course. However, the bank and McEnery agreed last year that selling the course would be the best course of action, dropping the foreclosure suit and calling in DSI, Victor said, adding that the actual order for the sale was put in late last month.

"They've been thinking about this for quite some time," he said.

Qualified bids on the course will be taken until March 9, and an auction will be held at 10 a.m. March 12, 2012. The sale should be finalized by the end of March, Victor said.

The Green Garden sale is another chapter in the ongoing turmoil surrounding McEnery and his properties, which included the Gas City service station chain and . Here's a timeline of events:

  • October 2010: Gas City filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
  • November 2010: First Midwest Bank filed a foreclosure suit against Green Garden Country Club.
