Frankfort Meats and Deli to Close Permanently Sunday

The downtown business that has been in Frankfort for more than 30 years is closing after a recent stroke suffered by its owner, a sign in front of the shop's Trolley Barn location states. Tell us what you'll miss about this village institution.

After more than three decades in business, Frankfort Meats and Deli will be closing its doors for good Sunday in downtown Frankfort.

"Thank you for all of your business & years of friendship," states an erasable sandwich board in front of the meat shop's Trolley Barn storefront.

The note on the sign board, written in green marker, explains that the closing is due to a recent stroke suffered by owner Tom Fetherling, which has left him unable to work behind the counter at the butcher shop and deli he started with his wife, Pam, more than 30 years ago.

Tom Fetherling will try to be at the Trolley Barn from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22, to say goodbye to neighbors and friends. Customers also are encouraged to leave their contact information at the shop for the Fetherlings in order to keep in touch, the sign board states.

The Fetherlings also are selling the equipment from the shop and will be doing so until the business closes Sunday, June 23. Interested buyers can call 815-469-1145 or inquire about items at the store.
