Frankfort Fun Never Ends, Up Next: 2 September Concerts, Wine and Ale Walk

Downtown Frankfort is in store for two new events this fall: September concerts and the inaugural wine and ale walk.

Downtown Frankfort, which is already the setting for a host of community events and festivals throughout the year, will see two new fall events starting this weekend.

First up is the September Sunset Music Series on Breidert Green from 5:30-6:30 p.m. this Sunday and again on Sept. 30.

“It is a village initiative,” said Frankfort Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Karen Blake. “They asked to partner up with us because the chamber has been sponsoring summer concerts for more than 20 years.”

“The idea was to try and take advantage of the really nice weather we enjoy in September,” she said. “We wanted to put on two additional concerts for people to enjoy after the Fall Fest.”

The free concerts will feature the Illinois Philharmonic Brass Quintet this Sunday and the Faculty Jazz Combo on Sept. 30.

“We have never showcased these groups before,” Blake said. “We hope the weather is nice and we would love for these concerts to take off.”

In case the weather doesn’t cooperate, the concerts will move inside the Frankfort Park District Founder’s Center, 140 Oak St.

The second new event, Wined-Ing Through Historic Downtown Frankfort, was set for Sept. 30 to coincide with the Faculty Jazz Combo concert, said Teresa Kara, owner of Chew on This Dog Barkery, 21 Ash St.

“We thought it would be another good way to get people to visit the Historic Frankfort District,” said Kara.

“We are selling only 200 tickets and that includes 20 stops for wine and ale tasting,” she said. “All proceeds will benefit the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association’s Disabled Veterans Program.”

The walk goes from 4-7 p.m. Sept. 30 rain or shine.

“Some of the stops will be featuring music earlier in the day,” Kara said.

Tickets for the wine and ale walk cost $20 in advance and are available at Chew on This Barkery, This & That Gifts, 21 White St., White Street Market, 37 Old Frankfort Way, and The Pickwick Society Tearoom, 122 Kansas St.
